HISTORY OF NIHON TAI-JITSU

The history of the traditional Nihon Tai-Jitsu, starts in the feudal Japan of IXth century, with the creation of school DAITO RYU.

In this school, combat forms with the different weapons used by the Samurai are teached, and also a system of self-defense, in the case of being disarmed, from our discipline is born. With the passage of the centuries, the school Daito Ryu improves its techniques and increases its fame, until arriving at the end of the last century (Meiji epoch), when by Imperial order the chaste of the Samurai is dissolved losing its privileges, among them the exclusive use of the weapons. Then, one of the last teachers of the School, SOKAKU TAKEDA, decides to teach to the people nonpertaining to the clan, techniques of self-defense of its school, the TAI-JITSU.

Between the group of selections people to whom he teached directly the secrets of the school, appeared Master MORIHEI UESHIBA (creative of AIKIDO). The Master Ueshiba transformed teaching received from Master Takeda into a discipline more philosophical than martial, the Aikido, but before this, he transmitted to some of his original students teachings of the school Daito Ryu. Master MINORU MOCHIZUKI, was one of them, direct student of Master JIGORO KANO (creative of the JUDO), was sent by him to study with famous masters of old schools of JU-JUTSU, like Masters MIFUNE and UESHIBA. In the Dojo of the last one he knows and he studies under the supervision of TAKEDA SOKAKU. Throughout his life he studies diverse old schools and combat styles like KARATE SHOTOKAN with Master GIGHIN FUNAKOSHI, and KARATE SHORINJI RYU of Master MASAYUKI HISAKATA. This conglomerate of knowledge ends at which at the moment it is also known like YOSEIKAN or like MOCHIZUKI RYU, a style composed of the following technical groups:

. Kihon Groups of fundamental techniques of the system (displacements, falls, throws, locks, blows, throttlings, immobilizations and controls)
. Kata Forms of demonstration (approximately one dozen of katas of Aiki-Jujutsu, Judo, Karate, Ken-Jutsu, Iai-Jutsu and Kobudo)
. Tai-Jitsu Technical of self defense (without weapons)
. Ne Waza Technical of ground combat
. Randori Practical combat
. Iai-Jutsu Technical of pulls out of a scabbard and cuts with the katana
. Ken-Jutsu Handling of the katana
. Bo-Jutsu Technical of long stick handling

In 1.931, with the consent of his masters, it opens his school of Martial Arts, Dojo YOSEIKAN in Shizuoka, his native city, and since then he is dedicated to teach the different BUDO that he dominates, among them the NIHON TAI-JITSU, denomination that is used to name to the old original Tai-Jitsu of the Daito Ryu and to its present teaching methodology.

From 1,951 to 1,954, Master MOCHIZUKI remained in Europe, specially in Paris, teaching his particular technique to a group of people, among them to the young french JIM ALCHEIK. When Master MOCHIZUKI returned to Japan, Master ALCHEIK traveled to Japan and by time of three years more, he was formed in the Dojo Yoseikan.

To his return to France and until its death in 1.961, he created the first formal nucleus of instructors of European Nihon Tai-Jitsu; among them it is necesary to emphasize, like his assistant, to the Master ROLAND HERNAEZ, who to the death of their professor, took the reins of the Nihon Tai-Jitsu, organizing and giving the definitive form to the European method of this Martial Art.

Master Hernaez, student of diverse Martial Arts considered diverse knowledges received of his teachers at the time of constructing the methodology of teaching on which the Nihon Tai-Jitsu is based at the moment. Thus teachings of their teacher of Judo, Mikosune Kawaishi, of which it applied certain methodologic concepts and of his teacher of Shorinji Kempo, Hirosi Oasaka, of which it incorporated certain technical aspects, comprise of the actual Nihon Tai-Jitsu.

FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES OF NIHON TAI-JITSU

Master HERNAEZ defines to us therefore the fundamental principles of the Nihon Tai-Jitsu:

In Nihon Tai-Jitsu, the ATEMIS (or blows given with the natural weapons of the body, on a sensible point), they have a very important role. In effect they precede generally to a counterattack technique and can also finish to a throw or a lock.

The DISPLACEMENTS, are indispensable for the self-defense, as much as atemis. Its practice must be followed with all the senses, agility and rapidity, with the purpose of turning aside the attack adverse creating an emptiness.

Atemi given in the beginning of one against, will cause a reaction, that will allow the linking.

To each attack, it correspond a certain number of possible defenses. The partitioners of Nihon Tai-Jitsu, selects them considering his preferences, physical constitution and its own experience.

FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES:

- Looks for the maximum of effectiveness.

- Not to be in danger, one self, in the course of the defense.

- Never to remain facing the adversary.

- To know the vital art atemis, as well as sensible points.

- Always to defend of proportional form to the received attack.

- Not to forget that during the training, the real defense, practices elsewhere in street clothes and that is not tatami.

- The deep respect to the life, must urge taijitsuka, to control its techniques to the maximum, so that it constitutes an example.
